Description
The M-Tach and O-Tach provide the ability to measure a vehicle’s engine speed (rpm) or driveshaft speed (rpm) while on a chassis dynamometer.
Magnetic Tachometer (M-Tach)
M-Tach provides the ability to measure a vehicle’s engine speed (rpm) while on a chassis dynamometer. The M-Tach is used when the engine speed cannot be obtained from the ECM data bus or when a direct engine speed measurement is needed. The M-Tach option includes a connection cable, internal wiring and signal conditioning to accept an engine speed input from a magnetic pickup (pickup not included). External cable length is 25 ft (7.62 m).
Optical Tachometer (O-Tach)
The O-Tach provides the ability to measure a vehicle’s driveshaft speed (rpm) while on a chassis dynamometer. When the vehicle is operated in a 1:1 gear, as it should be when testing on a chassis dynamometer, the driveshaft speed reading is equal to the engine speed. The O-Tach is not the ideal engine speed measurement option, with only one pulse per revolution, the capability and accuracy of the input signal is limited. The O-Tach option includes an optical sensor with cable 25 ft (7.62 m), reflective tape, magnetic base and mounting hardware.
